History of the University of Tabriz

University of Tabriz Admission Requirements

International applicants must meet specific criteria that vary by degree level and language of instruction. For bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs, proficiency in Persian or English is required. Some programs are offered in English, in which case valid language certificates like IELTS or TOEFL may be necessary. General requirements include valid academic transcripts, passport, personal photo, identification documents, and sometimes academic recommendation letters.

Step 1: Prepare Required Documents

1. Check the university website and find your desired program; programs are listed by faculties or departments.
2. Carefully review university regulations, policies, and fees.
3. Scan the passport’s first page clearly (passport must be valid for at least one year).
4. Scan the latest academic degree certificate in English, signed and officially stamped.
5. Scan the transcript of the latest degree in English, signed and stamped.
6. Scan a biometric photo with good quality.
7. Scan the payment receipt for the document review fee, signed and stamped by the financial office. (If you cannot pay in person, someone else may pay and email you the receipt.)
8. Scan health certificates confirming no illness or disability preventing study. If unavailable, submit a signed self-declaration and visit a doctor for confirmation after registration.

Step 2: Obtain SAORG Code

Go to the SAORG website, fill out the form, and get your SAORG code. Keep it for further steps.

Step 3: Get University Tracking Code

Visit the university website, complete the relevant form, and receive a tracking code required for the next steps.

Step 4: Email the University

Send an email to iro@tbzmed.ac.ir including your tracking code in the message.

Step 5: Follow Up on Admission

After receiving the acceptance letter:

• Review the curriculum and course start date.
• Arrive in Tabriz with all documents two to three days before the program starts.

Important Notes:

Dormitory use is not available before registration.

After registration, complete the following:

• Open a bank account
• Complete insurance forms
• Pay tuition and dorm fees
• Obtain insurance certificate
• Sign university contract
• Register for Persian or English language classes if needed
• Buy a mobile SIM card
• Receive university registration forms
• Move into the dormitory room

Language Requirements for International Students

The University of Tabriz offers instruction in either Persian or English for international students. Those who achieve acceptable scores on language proficiency tests (TOEFL, IELTS, or CEFR) are exempt from the preparatory language course and may directly begin their graduate studies.

Students who do not meet the minimum language scores must attend a one-year English preparatory program in the university’s English department.

• Scores from the above tests are valid for up to two years.
• Submitted scores must be evaluated and approved by the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

• IELTS Academic: International English Language Testing System (average of four skills).
• CEFR: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the international standard for language proficiency levels.

Learning Persian

Since instruction is in Persian or English, international students must have sufficient knowledge of Persian.

Persian language learning requirements:

• Non-native Persian speakers must complete intensive Persian language courses.

These courses are offered at centers approved by Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology or the University of Tabriz Language Center.
